SOCRATICA VI – Oct 19-23, 2025

The International Society for Socratic Studies is pleased to announce a call for papers for the Socratica VI conference. The conference accepts papers on all subjects related to Socrates, the Socratic circle, and their reception.
This year, we also have a sub-theme: The Emotions in the Socratic Circle. This means primarily not moral psychology but theory of emotions, portrayal of emotions, affective rhetorical techniques, enargeia, and the ways in which Socrates challenges the emotional commitments of his interlocutors. In January we will conduct an online seminar on emotion theory for those interested in presenting on this topic.
The conference is co-sponsored by the University of Crete and Bar Ilan University, and will be held on the campus of University of Crete in Rethymno, Crete from October 19 to October 23, 2025.
Conference fee is $120 ($50 for students, post-docs and underemployed academics). Due date for proposals is March 31st.
Please send proposals of up to 300 words in one of the languages of the Society (English, Spanish, French, German and Italian) to: Socratica-VI@fks.uoc.gr
